About SafeHaven Energy
Origin Story & Purpose
Building Energy Systems That Honor Land and People
SafeHaven Energy (SHE) was founded with a singular conviction: genuine community sovereignty requires full control over the systems that power everyday life. For too long, conventional energy development has operated through extractive, top-down models that overlook cultural stewardship, self-determination, and the self-defined priorities of Tribal Nations.
SHE exists to bridge high-level technical energy systems planning with culturally grounded decision-making. We provide strategic planning, microgrid preliminary feasibility, energy literacy, and grant readiness frameworks that put Tribal self-determination first.
We do not treat energy solely as megawatts or infrastructure—it is fundamentally intertwined with community health, environmental justice, economic autonomy, and intergenerational survival.
"Energy sovereignty in practice means creating resilient clean power that protects our water, air, and future generations for hundreds of years to come."
Cultural Positioning & Symbolism
Visual Narrative Rooted in Stewardship & Tradition
Every element of SafeHaven Energy’s visual identity carries deep cultural significance, grounding our technical planning in ancestral philosophy:
The Turtle
Embodies longevity, patient perseverance, Mother Earth, and intergenerational responsibility. In Indigenous traditions across Turtle Island, the turtle represents our foundational relationship to the land and the duty to protect it across generations.
The Circle
Symbolizes unbroken continuity, protection, community wholeness, and sovereignty. There is no beginning and no end—our decisions in energy infrastructure account for the ancestors behind us and the youth ahead.
Wreath of Leaves
Represents environmental stewardship, regenerative lifecycles, and renewable energy technologies that work in sacred balance with ecosystems rather than depleting them.
Leadership & Expertise
Founder Background & Community Impact
Marissa Sisk is an Indigenous energy planner, educator, and systems strategist dedicated to advancing Tribally owned, decentralized clean energy infrastructure. Holding a Master of Environmental Science and Management from the University of California, Santa Barbara Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, her work blends rigorous environmental analysis with community-led self-determination.
Throughout her career, Marissa has served on the frontlines of community energy transitions—guiding preliminary energy systems planning, conducting energy efficiency audits, and assisting Tribal communities and partners in navigating complex clean energy microgrid projects. Her background spans extensive work in youth STEM and science education, community organizing, and intertribal stewardship initiatives.
Recognizing the critical gap between federal funding streams and Tribal project execution, Marissa established SafeHaven Energy and launched the Tribal Energy Industry (TEI) program. Her strategic grant development and campaign architecture have successfully secured over $10 million in community project funding, equipping Tribal Nations with the resources required to turn clean energy sovereignty from an ideal into permanent reality.
